I would like to go to Sintra during the weekend and the rest of the week travel by metro in Lisbon. Does anyone know if it is the best and if I can buy it anywhere or just at several metro stations? The monthly Navigante Metropolitano pass is loaded onto a contactless card known as Lisboa Viva, which you must have first. There are other passes available more suitable for tourists that both considerably reduce the cost of fares and save messing about with money. There is a one day pass, also one called 'zapping' which stores money on a contactless card which you use for any trip on urban train, tram or bus until the cash runs out. You both need your own ticket. However, Multibanco terminals will not offer any option with a U. I'm relying entirely on what I see on Metro's web page, as I have not tried to purchase one of these passes myself.
