How to Take a Nude
F irst things first: the documentary Vaginas Channel 4 was not about vaginas — it was about vulvas. They were photographed up close and personal by the artist Laura Dodsworth with their owners invited to sit, look and talk about them afterwards as part of a project that follows on from similar ones she has done involving breasts and penises separately, for the avoidance of doubt. Presumably the powers that be thought calling it Vulvas would lead too many unsuspecting viewers to settle down in anticipation of a programme about the history of Swedish engineering. It was not. It did what it should have said on the tin. My mother was a gynaecologist for nearly 40 years and I now feel like the Queen Mother felt about the bombed-out East End after Buckingham Palace was hit; I can look her in the eye. My labiaversity is symptomatic of a world in which, as the various women who took part noted, its physical appearance and makeup is rarely discussed. And while we are taught endlessly about the blood, birth and pain it will bring to us, its potential for pleasure is only ever really noted in relation to others. That makes it sound like an angry programme. What it undoubtedly was, instead, was gently but firmly and relentlessly radical.
A FORMER Page 3 girl filmed sunbathing naked in her back garden by a perv policeman in a helicopter has revealed she was left feeling "sick and humiliated". Tracy Dixon claims "sex-obsessed" swinger Adrian Pogmore would appear over her home at least three times a week and film her and her young daughters. Tracy, who posed topless in The Sun in , told This Morning: "The footage was taken in from the family home. I got a phone call from south Yorkshire police who said they needed to see me about an incident.
As the original supers stalk back into the spotlight, here's our edit of the best models of all time. It was the image that kicked off the era of supermodel mania. The original gang, a bit like the Spice Girls, had someone for everyone. Christy Turlington, with her calm doe-eyed gaze and impossibly perfect features that looked carved from soapstone. Cindy Crawford and Tatjana Patitz, the smiling, can-do faces of athletic vigour on each side of the pond. That cover was shot more than a quarter of a century ago, yet ask most people to name a supermodel, and chances are at least one member of this quintet will roll instantly off the tongue. To be a supermodel is to be an entity larger than that of fashion plate: Lisa Fonssagrives, a Swede widely considered to be the very first of the type, is perhaps known as such because she leveraged her modelling streak of the 40s into a fashion-design career. If the quintet were the first graduating class of modern supermodels, Kate Moss was its first rogue scholar.
